Supercomputers

Supercomputers are computers that are usually used by governments, and they are dedicated for scientific and research purposes. It is interesting to see how these computers improved and how much faster they are now than, let us say, 10 years ago. In the year 2000, the fastest computer in the world had a speed of around 4 TFlops. If we look at 2005 the speed increased to 110 TFlops, and the predicted speed for 2010 is around 5PFlops (5000 TFlops). At this stage of development in our lifetimes the speed of such computers will be amazing, and they will be able to make almost impossible calculations. One of the recent developments is that more and more of the top supercomputers are utilizing quad-core processors. i am very happy that we can observe the progress in technology such as the invention of the Blu-ray Player. It is hard for me to imagine what life will look like in ten years if technology advances at such a fast pace. we will have to live a little bit longer to see what the future is going to bring us.
