Should you thank your visitors for commenting? A lot of bloggers are saying that it is a good practice thanking your readers for commenting. Some bloggers are encouraging others to thank a commentator by sending a personalized email. Personally, I think that you should not do so and here is why:
-The commentator will receive a lot of spam if he comments on a lot of blogs. Eventually, he might get discouraged, and will stop visiting your site at all. Not everyone likes to receive dozens of emails/messages per day.
-You may simply wish to respond to a comment on your own blog. If a few people leave a comment, you can thank them all at once by leaving your own comment. Many bloggers agree that this is the best approach.
-Time spent thanking for comments could be used for working on quality content. Writing quality articles takes a lot of creativity and time, so make sure that you have time left to do so. Your readers care about the quality of your articles and that is why you should spend most of your time writing posts.
-Commenting is just a natural part of the blog and commentators also benefit from the fact that they comment. Some argue that in reality visitors should be the ones thanking you.
-Automated responders that would send a short thank you email are also not such a great idea. That is because people do not like to deal with machines. I think this is common sense, as we live in times when we receive a lot of automated spam messages to our email boxes.
